Sunday....April 19th
The little fighter strikes again... Wasn't it just 2 days ago that he went to room air? Today Rachael called to tell me that our Joshua was doing so well nursing (though it still exhausts him), that they decided to take his feeding tube (NG) out of his nose to make him more comfortable. I believe that leaves him with a couple of monitors, a pic line IV in his arm, and a reg. IV in his foot! You can almost tell there is a baby under all the wires! It's incredible!
Dr. Chan, the Neonatologist, stopped by in the evening and told Joshy's daddy that he will be going home in a few days after he is done with his meningitis medication...depending on the bilirubin results on Monday morning. The bilirubin test HAD been quite a bit higher today (and now the nurses call him umpa-loompa), and they will retake it in the morning. Joshua's poor little feet. He is so sick of being poked there! The Dr. also said to bring in his car seat on Monday for a check on how he breathes sitting up, etc. It is getting closer....this boy going home! Finally some real excitement!
One more tidbit - - Late tonight the nurses said that they are going to move him to the regular NICU! He is officially off the respiratory care list! Can you believe it? 12 days after double pneumonia, strep b, sepsis, meningitis, and jaundice....and he is being downgraded to regular NICU. He will probably go home from there. There are not enough words to express our gratitude to Heavenly Father. He watches out for these little ones, doesn't he?
