Time Stands Still in the Hospital...

FRIDAY - - April 10th

Joshua's bilirubin came back higher this morning. He was diagnosed with jaundice yesterday, but with everything else, it seems so insignificant...but it's not.

The new jaundice lights in this hospital are very cool. No more blue lights! Its more of a "desk lamp" look...and very bright white! Cool!

Joshua still does not appreciate the C-pap, so the sedation continues (though it helps him through the pain as well). The nurses have found that Joshy keeps opening his mouth and letting all of the oxygen OUT that is going IN through the C-pap. So they have a little hat on his head that covers the eyes for the jaundice therapy, and then they have a soft strap (of sorts) that attaches to the hat and goes under his chin...which keeps his mouth closed! Poor baby! There is not even much showing on his face anymore!

I have not been to the hospital these last 2 days as I had a small sore throat...but Joshua's mommy keeps me up to date every few hours...for which I am very grateful. She added to me on this day that his face had swollen up quite a bit from the C-pap and it was very sad to see.

But a moment of good news came today!!!!! Yay! Dr. Chan (the Neonatologist) has told the nurses that Joshua can not have any food for a while yet. But.....he changed his plans in the evening and if he can handle it.....Joshy can have 1 tsp. of breast milk every 4 hours. He is doing well with it - and it is going to make him stronger!

HE IS SUCH A LITTLE FIGHTER!
