Matthew Breaks an Arm...

Goodness!  Apparently, this child takes after his parents--but mostly his father!  Almost 3 weeks to the day after getting stitches (well, glue, really) in his head, Matthew fell off a swingset at my parents house (actually, he was climbing a rope latter to the slide on the swingset and fell through--about 4 feet) and broke his little left arm.  Kris was out of town with our ward for Youth Conference, so the kids and I had spent the day at my parents house.  It took us about 45 minutes to get him calmed down, but he eventually did and was letting us touch his arm, was moving it and even putting a bit of pressure on it.  We decided that it probably just jammed and going to be sore for a few days, but likely fine.  Well, he had a really rough night (very unusual for Matthew; he's our best sleeper!) and was still quite whiny and irritable and wouldn't eat breakfast the next morning, so I decided a trip to Primary's ER was in order.  My mom took Kennedy and Joshua (thank you!!) for the day and Matthew and I headed to the hospital.  Once there, my little shy-guy wouldn't give anyone there the time of day, let alone answer any questions!  He allowed 4--count 'em: 4!--different people touch and manipulate (gently, of course) his sore arm.  He was certainly sore but was again turning it and putting light pressure on it.  The ER doctor finally concluded that he likely had a small buckle fracture in his wrist, where he wouldn't feel as much pain when touched (she explained that forearm fractures usually caused a great deal more pain and kids were much more protective of them).  X-rays were taken and low and behold, there was, in fact, a buckle fracture--in his arm!  Right where each person had touched!

See it?  Right there.  Just to the right of the 2.  Yeah, there.  See the "buckle"?  Pretty cool, eh?

They put him in a splint and sling and sent us home. On Wednesday, he got his real cast ("Thomas" blue, of course)! This one is so much better! Not so heavy or hot! And it allows his arm to be much more mobile, as the splint had gone behind his elbow, immobilizing that, too. He gets it off in 3 weeks. Hopefully, no more trips to the ER for awhile! Poor guy! Love you, bud! (He's been very brave!)
